Done for Life Drawing III assignment. This is a self portrait based upon what we reflect to the outside world (the proper, composed self) and the wounded, scarred self that is on the inside and wants one to stop pretending.

2008
This piece was done for Drawing III. We were to create a piece of artwork based upon a grid. The actual piece is interactive and include magnetic black strips featuring words that are often applied to the stereotypes of feminists. I did not include these here in order to show the actual drawing.
The figures are graphite on bristol board and soaked in tea.

This was done in my Life Drawing II class. It took roughly three hours and was done in charcoal and the highlights were created using a subtractive method. (lifting out with an eraser).
How to Pull a Rabbit out of a Hat
Posted in Uncategorized with tags art, drawing, female, graphite, magic, magician, rabbit, tricks, watercolor on December 9, 2008 by katewheels
This piece was done for my Drawing III class based around the concept of seducing the viewer. The seduction is in the splashes of red, the text, and the poster like quality of the drawing. The curved edges mimic a playing card, tying in the idea of a magician, a master of illusions and seduction. There is a smaller card that is supposed to be displayed next to the piece featuring the instructions on how to pull a rabbit out of a hat and an actual rabbit. I will add this to the post at a slightly later date.
Done on Bristol board using graphite, watercolor, and red thread.
